Once you have been given an evaluation of your Property and you decide to consign the Property to Greg Martin Auctions to be sold in the next appropriate sale, a contract detailing your inventory, including the agreed upon reserve price and the auction estimates, will be prepared and signed by both parties. Then, GMA will assist with arranging transportation of your item(s) to the auction house. After the auction, GMA staff will inform you of the sale of your Property and its selling price within thirty days of the auction, and will document that sale and send you a check less any agreed-upon fees and commissions within thirty days. Should your Property fail to sell, we will inform you within thirty working days.

Insurance      (top)

Your Property is totally insured for the Reserve price throughout the auction process, including while in transit to Greg Martin Auctions provided that the packing of your items is consistent with industry standards. The insurance fees are included in the seller's sales commission.

Appraisal Services      (top)

Essentially, there are two types of appraised values: the item's value in the market: its fair market value, often referred to as the price paid by a willing Buyer to a willing seller; and its replacement value, the retail price that would have to be paid to replace the item. Even if you don't plan to sell, Greg Martin Auctions offers both fair market and insurance appraisals for private individuals, corporations, museums, banks, estate lawyers, etc. Our appraisals are all private and confidential, and detailed written descriptions, inventories and values of the items appraised will be provided. Many factors determine appraisal fees, including time and travel. Please call Greg Martin Auctions at (800) 509-1988 or (415) 537-3800 to schedule a private appraisal and determine a fee.

Sales Commissions      (top)

Each consignment is considered unique and worthy of a custom fee structure reflecting the competitive costs of marketing. Generally, specialized fee structures are quoted for individual items valued in excess of $10,000 or collections valued above $100,000. Other consignments will normally experience a seller's commission of ten percent for auction lots valued above $10,000 and fifteen percent for lots valued at $10,000 and below. Additional service fees, which may include shipping, insurance and photography, will be quoted in consultation with our client. Appraisal fees vary according to the scope and complexity of the collection. Fees will be quoted within a private consultation.
