Lot #2061. Fine Cased Model 1893 Borchardt Semi-Automatic Pistol, by Ludwig Loewe

Description:

Serial no. 933, 7.65mm Borchardt cal., 6-1/2” barrel, blue finish with fire blue small parts, checkered walnut grips. Case includes matching holster/shoulder stock, matching numbered detachable cheekpiece, walnut handled screwdriver with two blades, three matching 8-round magazines, walnut hold-open ‘magazine’, nickel-plated brass oiler in Moroccan leather pouch, small tin of lubricating grease. Ludwig Loewe mfg'd the first 1104 of the total 3000 pistols produced before merging with DWM which was essentially an ammunition manufacturer prior to the consolidation. The newly-formed company further refined the Borchardt under the brilliant guidance of Georg Luger and introduced the Model 1900 Luger a few short years later virtually changing the landscape of future handgun design. This antique firearm is an essential link in the development of modern firearms and should be included in any collection wishing to seriously document the history of the semi-automatic pistol. (Buller Collection)
