Lot #1357. *Winchester Model 21 Custom Engraved 12 Gauge Shotgun

Description:

*Serial no. 5049, 12 ga. 2-5/8” chambers, 28” barrels stamped “Full” choke left, “Improved Cylinder” choke right (measuring .032” and .006” respectively) with ivory front and center beads, double triggers, auto safety, wall thickness measuring .034” left and .032” right, mfg'd., circa 1935.  Gun has been custom engraved by J. Michelena in a style comparable to the original Winchester 21-4 pattern featuring fine American scroll with rectangular themed border bands highlighting duck and partridge on the frame sides with a setter and retriever on the bottom of the frame.  The gun is re-stocked in figured English walnut with 22 LPI checkering on the splinter forend, pistol grip, side panels and butt; length of pull measures 13-7/8”, drop at comb is 1-5/8” and drop at heel is 2-5/8”, weight is 7-1/4 lbs.  The name “K. E. Smith” is stamped on the barrel and action flats.  A period leg-o-mutton leather case is included which has an elliptical brass owner’s plaque with the letters “K E S” roughly hand inscribed.



Condition: Fine as redone with 90% blue remaining on frame and barrels, showing most loss of reblued finish on the lower tang and bottom of frame. Barrel sides have finish losses with scratches above the fore-end. A small dent is present in the left barrel 4-1/2" from the muzzle. Screws are slightly misaligned. Triggers are crisp and ejectors are strong, barrels are tight on face, action bolting is tight, bores are bright, stock with minor scuffs and handling marks. Case cover strap is torn.
